This year I decided to make each of my Vocal Synths as VRoid/MMD models, so I could have MMD motions and videos as an option for my covers. Due to the limitations of both my art style and VRoid itself, I decided against trying to perfectly recreate characters with pre-existing character designs, and instead give them my own twist. That also comes with the bonus of being able to use them together and everyone looking like a cohesive unit. I took my UTAU design as sort of a base, and then changed things to make each character still look like themselves. Essentially I gave them very casual idol unit uniforms.
Mai presented an interesting challenge due to her official design being just "Ma" with swirls of pinks and yellows. I pulled some inspirations from different meanings of the name "Mai" and also the colors of SynthV's own logo since Mai comes free with the Pro Version of the program. Also because she's essentially a "free" voice she doesn't have as many features as other banks so I made her the smallest of the SynthV models I made. Considering what I had to work with, I think she came out great!
As for what I changed between this 3D preview and the MMD version of the model, I fixed the straps on her zori that weren't connected properly to the soles of the shoes and fixed the rigging of the sleeves around her wrists. Originally I wanted to add physics to the sleeves as well, but due to how low poly the mesh was it ended up being impossible.
Mai is a Voice Bank made by Dreamtonics for the program SynthesizerV also by Dreamtonics. This is not my original character and just an interpretation of her I made for personal use.
