I always thought Elise got too much hate, and I wanted to make my own model of her. You can tell what they were TRYING to go for in her story but it needed more polishing and the "kiss" WAS rather unnecessary. I LOVE the dynamic she had with Sonic though and it could work in different circumstances, I honestly ship them platonically but TOTALLY get it.
The poor girl was literally forced to bear the weight of her father's mistakes and suppress herself her whole life for crying out loud! Sonic was the friend she SORELY needed and he helped inspire her to express and accept herself along with being brave. Plus, she was willing to sacrifice herself to save her kingdom and tried her best to help out with the knowledge she had!
If she was allowed to come back, I can see her having a genuinely close friendship with Sonic and Co., using her status and connections as a royal to help out, feeling like she knew them at one point.
