After a lot of issues and delays, here’s my personal take on Liam’s design!
For anyone unaware of this project, I’ve made models for each of the Voice Banks that I currently own to use in my MVs and thumbnails. If the character has an established design, I take elements of it and mix it with something close to an idol unit uniform, this way, regardless of which company made the character, they can all be used together as a cohesive set. Then there’s the Dreamtonic original Voice Banks, these voices have no character design and are instead just letters and colors. For them, I look at their name meaning for inspiration for a concept and then, obviously, use their set colors.
Liam’s name can mean protector, strong-willed warrior, or helmet of will and it gave me fantasy vibes, specifically something sort of princely or knightly. That being said though, I ran into a lot of issues making him… Technically I’ve had his voice since March and that’s when I started his model too, but between life punching me and my family in the face this year and me just really wanting to move on to Blender and leave behind abandoned software and presets, I admittedly felt very demotivated to work on him these past few months. Since I want to start making original models, going back to VRoid felt like I was taking a step backwards, and it still kind of does. But, at the end of the day, making 100% original models for my Voice Banks will take a lot longer than making something with VRoid's presets, that and my new vTuber model comes first before my Vocal Synth models just because there's 8 of those I would need to make as opposed to a single me. So, between that logic, and wanting to do something for my birthday, I was finally able to force myself to sit down at my computer and make his temporary VRoid model.
As for what’s different between this preview and the MMD model, I used the hair tool to make him a sword and a scabbard. I also rigged the sword to be removable from the scabbard so he can be posed wielding it. Due to these being made with the hair tool though, they are by default rigged to his head and look very wrong as a vrm, so for this 3D turnaround they have been removed.
Liam is a Voice Bank made by Dreamtonics for the program SynthesizerV 2 also by Dreamtonics. This is not my original character and just an interpretation of him I made for personal use.
